IF YOUR IDEA OF SATIRE IS MAKING FUN OF PEOPLE IN THE EXACT SAME WAY THAT THEY ARE ALREADY MADE FUN OF EVERY FUCKING DAY THEN YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT SATIRE MEANS
"People who dismiss the unemployed and dependent as "parasites" fail to understand economics and parasitism. A successful parasite is one that is not recognized by its host, one that can make its host work for it without appearing as a burden. Such is the ruling class in a capitalist society."
As a Native American, I can’t tell you what an absolute pain it is to traverse through aisles of costumes this time of year, especially with children in tow. Mommy doesn’t like explaining why Party City is selling a “Cheeky Cherokee” teen costume that promises to send its wearers “heading for the woods,” or why Spirit Halloween is displaying a “Naughty Navajo” mini dress that will have women “sending out smoke signals.”
Like any decent parent, I try to teach my daughter to carry herself with pride and dignity. These racist costumes, that specifically target her purely because of her race, send her the message that Native American women are viewed as sex objects. It makes her sad and angry. She knows those costumes are not who we as Native women are, and that we should not be depicted that way. Statistically, a shocking one in three Native American women will be sexually assaulted in her lifetime. Encouraging the public to view Native American women as disposable sex toys is more than a grave insult, it’s irresponsible and negligent.
Why are we so ashamed of periods? … Women’s bodies are incredibly sexualized in our media and in our every day experiences. So much so that even mentioning menstruation sends a lot of people into kindergarten levels of EW. And why? Because for a moment, you have broken the spell. And suddenly, you are no longer a magical mannequin unicorn fairy existing purely for the sexual fantasy of other people. Suddenly, you’re a human being! (X)

Anonymous asked: When people talk about white washing in Hollywood, it seems they don't take into account the ratio of races in the US. 72% is white, 12% is black, and 16% is Hispanic. That is the US population. So why should Hollywood represent a different demographic?
I don’t know that stats off the top of my head, so I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and say sure, those stats are accurate.
Now, Hollywood is all about illusion. It’s about selling you dreams, and stories, and adventures, and tragedy - everything you never thought you could feel, everything you never knew you could want.
It seems you are not taking into account that by whitewashing Hollywood we are missing out on some great stories. We are erasing them - not only the stories, but the people behind them. And it’s not even that we aren’t letting PoC have their stories told, but by casting white people to play PoC, we are also telling them that we know your stories, we know your struggle better than you do yourself… and we can play it better. Yeahno.
Also, I can’t ever remember the last big blockbuster centered around a non-white latino narrative, AKA those demographics aren’t even being matched in Hollywood right now.
In a world of fantasy where anything can happen, can we think of nothing better than to continue oppressing, continue silencing those who have something to say, something to share, something to offer?
BONUS QUESTION: If you’re so concerned with keeping the demographic accurate, then the majority of films should be about women, yeah? Or maybe this “concern” of yours is really rooted in something else… :-/
fun prank; tell women they’re only good for romance, sex, and having children. and then laugh at them for wanting romance, shame them for having sex, and act like they have to give up all facets of their personalities if they become mothers
